Podvertiser recently announced that it will be launching its own advertising service help unite podcasters and advertisers. This will add Podvertiser to the growing list of services that promise to help podcasters generate revenue from their podcasts. Now every indie podcaster hoping to make a quick buck will be implementing advertisements in their audio recordings. Advertising finds a way into everything! Most of my friends and colleagues started downloading podcasts because they got tired of the advertising and marketing on commercial radio. Aaron Bates from Big Show Radio summed it up nicely in a recent Wired article:
For me personally, I got tired of constantly being marketed to and hearing a generic fake radio personality. When the traffic guy has something to pawn off to the listeners, there’s a problem with that model. So why are people so eager to return to that failed model?
